Avidyne Introduces IFD100 iPad App

IFD100 Wirelessly Controls Your Panel-Mounted IFD, Adding Utility And Ease Of Use

Avidyne Corporation announced their new IFD100, an iPad-based application that mimics all the functionality of  their IFD-Series GPS Flight Management Systems, and giving pilots a new tool for managing their flight.

The IFD100 iPad app gives pilots a fully redundant, large-format map that wirelessly connects to their IFD 4-Series or 5-Series GPS FMS system. All knob and touch functionality of the IFD can now be controlled remotely by the iPad in real time. ADS-B weather and traffic and Synthetic Vision are also updated wirelessly for display on the large-screen moving map.

Pilots flying with panel-mounted Avidyne’s IFD Series GPS FMS systems can use the IFD100 app to create flight plans on their iPad before leaving home, and then wirelessly synchronize with their panel-mounted IFD before departure or easily edit in real time in the aircraft.

“The IFD100 represents another great example of the power of our integrated wireless connectivity strategy,” said Dan Schwinn, Avidyne’s President & CEO. “With the proliferation of tablets in the cockpit, we wanted to make it even easier for pilots to manage their information, both pre-flight and enroute and the IFD100 provides a very elegant and easy solution.”

“The IFD100 is a powerful extension of the panel-mounted IFD,” said Mitch Biggs, Avidyne's Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “We’ve ported all the actual flight code and optimized the user interface for the iPad, so it’s really like having another IFD in the cockpit, but with an even bigger touch-screen display.”

“And what’s more, it’s provided at no additional charge for all of our IFD owners,” Biggs added.

The IFD100 will be available as part of Avidyne’s upcoming Release 10.2 software upgrade for the IFD540 and IFD440 GPS FMS systems. It is also compatible with all of Avidyne’s newly announced IFD systems including the IFD550, IFD545, IFD510 and IFD410.

The IFD100 App will be available as a free download from the iTunes App Store for any IFD owner and will be available shortly after Release 10.2 software certification.

Release 10.2 software for the IFD Series will be certified and available later this year.  For existing IFD440 and IFD540 owners, R10.2 will be available for download directly from the Avidyne website at no charge. Optionally, customers can choose to get the software on USB memory stick for $99 from Avidyne.
