Bombardier Launches Smart Link Data Connectivity

Monitoring And In-Flight Reporting Service For Learjet, Challenger And Global jets

Bombardier is bringing aircraft data management to a new level with the launch of its Bombardier Smart Link service, which will be progressively rolled out for Learjet, Challenger and Global aircraft.

Smart Link's performance and operations monitoring and reporting services offer Bombardier aircraft operators information and reports that will improve the in-service performance of their aircraft, ensure faster return to service, and ultimately, enable pro-active maintenance.

Through a direct and secure link to Bombardier's Customer Response Centre data center, Smart Link enables the company's Customer Support teams to monitor operator and fleet performance, alert maintenance personnel of failures, and rapidly transform notifications into real-time service plans, even while the aircraft is in flight and no matter where it is in the world. Coupled with Bombardier's industry-leading SmartFix Plus troubleshooting tools, Smart Link affords operators an exceptional degree of customization, which manages aircraft data and features stringent safeguards to ensure information security and the confidentiality of customer data, in accordance with the latest regulatory requirements.

"Following extensive testing with our operators, we have developed a compelling data management solution based on some of the most advanced technology the industry has to offer," said Andy Nureddin, Vice President & General Manager, Customer Services, Bombardier Business Aircraft. "Bombardier's Smart Link services will provide customers with a new level of insight and significantly improve the way they manage their maintenance activities. We will also continue to broaden our portfolio of services under Smart Link, working hand-in-hand with operators."

In-flight fault notification service testing on the Learjet 70 and Learjet 75 aircraft has been performed in collaboration with five operators-covering more than 10 aircraft-over a period of three months and provided significant data to help improve aircraft maintainability and enable a pro-active support model to rectify potential issues. This service now becomes standard on Learjet 70 and Learjet 75 aircraft and is offered as a complimentary upgrade by Bombardier Business Aircraft.

Bombardier has also conducted extensive tests on engine trend and exceedance monitoring with more than 60 operators of Global 5000 and Global 6000 aircraft, equipped with the Bombardier Vision flight deck. Following the completion of the testing cycle, this will be the next Smart Link standard offering.

Smart Link services for Challenger 300, Challenger 350, Challenger 604, Challenger 605 and Challenger 650 aircraft are being developed with flexible data connectivity in mind. Initial services will include automated, wireless and secure transmission of charts, FMS databases and eMaps, while facilitating Maintenance Diagnostic Computer (MDC) data downloading, from anywhere in the world, via Wi-Fi or cellular networks. To enable connectivity services, operators requiring pre-requisite hardware upgrades or installation can contact any Bombardier Aircraft Service Centre ahead of subscribing to Smart Link for Challenger series aircraft.

Further, Bombardier Smart Link services will be rolled out progressively and additional connectivity options will be made available on a subscription basis.
