Aussie BASE Jumpers Land In Arms Of The Law

One Lands In Front Of Police Car

The whole point of BASE-jumping at 0300 in the morning is to reduce the chances of getting caught performing an illegal parachute jump. Unfortunately for two jumpers in Australia, the whole point of nighttime police patrols is to catch people who feel emboldened to violate the law at 0300.

The Tasmanian Mercury newspaper reports two 27-year-old thrill-seekers have a court date May 22, after their jump from the roof of a building in Sydney coincided with the passing of a routine police patrol.

One of the men reportedly landed on a nearby street without being noticed... but the other came down right in front of the passing patrol car.

The resulting foot pursuit was short after the men allegedly tried to escape with their parachutes still attached. They both face charges of risking the safety of others by jumping from a building or structure, which carries a fine of up to $1,000 AUS.

Police say they mainly want to know how the pair got into the building at 0300.
