Pact Covers Clerical, Office, And Passenger Service
Personnel
The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace
Workers (IAM), District 143, today announced a tentative agreement
with Alaska Airlines that covers the carrier’s 2,600
Clerical, Office and Passenger Service (COPS) employees.
“This agreement provides our members the wages they deserve
and the job security they demanded,” said Jackie Fay,
District 143 General Chairperson and chief negotiator. “The
IAM negotiating committee is unanimously recommending membership
ratification.”
The proposed three-year contract improves wages, enhances job
security and includes a $1,500 signing bonus. The new agreement
also holds the line on health care costs for employees and provides
for a program allowing Reservations employees to work from home. In
addition to guaranteed pay raises, the agreement includes
performance-based pay incentives and improved productivity
measures.
“IAM members at Alaska Airlines are now among the most
highly compensated employees in the airline industry, with an
excellent benefits package and job security,” said District
143 President Stephen Gordon.
Negotiations between IAM and Alaska Airlines began in March
2010. Citing job security concerns, workers rejected an earlier
offer by the carrier to extend the existing agreement. The new
agreement includes job guarantees and extends the job security
language for one year beyond the January 1, 2014 amendable
date.
A ratification schedule is being developed.
