Integration of Evolution Flight Display Series and GFC-600 Autopilot Imminent
Aspen Avionics, the Albuquerque-based avionics concern and maker of the popular Evolution Flight Display family of products, has announced that it has developed new software that will allow its Evolution Flight Display series to interface with the GFC-600 digital autopilot.
Certification paperwork has been submitted to the FAA, and approval of the new software is expected in autumn 2022.
When coupled to Garmin’s GFC-600 autopilot, Aspen’s v2.12 software enhances and expands the unit’s basic autopilot function to Aspen’s Primary Flight Display (PFD), and streamlines autopilot controls, thereby reducing pilot workload. Integration of the GFC-600 autopilot (via the v2.12 software) with Aspen’s glass panel technology renders flying—particularly single-pilot IFR operations easier and safer.
Enhancements to the GFC-600’s capabilities and operations facilitated by the new software include:
- Ability to select Altitude, Vertical Speed, and Airspeed on either the PFD or the GFC 600 panel.
- Added flight director capability for coupled autopilot operations.
- Fully digital interface eliminates the need for adapter boxes.
Aspen vice president of sales and customer support Mark Ferrari states: “As always, Aspen continuously improves its Evolution flight display system with new software advances by working with other avionics manufacturers to provide the latest digital flight deck options for general aviation aircraft. We always aim to provide affordable software upgrades that future-proof Aspen’s Evolution Flight Display system, keeping it on the cutting-edge with new features and capabilities without the need to replace the hardware.”
Additional features of the v2.12 software include:
- Extended runway centerlines on multi-function display moving map display.
- Selected altitude/airspeed output for Trio autopilots.
- Improved auto brightness levels based upon customer feedback.
The GFC-600 interface software upgrade is priced at $1,995.
