Mid-Continent Instruments and Avionics and True Blue Power Host NBAA19 Coverage!

Mid-Continent Instruments and Avionics and True Blue Power -- NBAA 2019 Booth #C8717

Ten True Blue Power® Products Deliver Essential Power to the Newly-Certified, Super-Midsize Cessna Citation Longitude

True Blue Power’s state-of-the-art equipment, including two DC-to-DC voltage converters, six DC-to-AC inverters and two intelligent batteries, powers Textron Aviation’s recently-certified Cessna Citation Longitude.

“The Longitude redefines the super-midsize business jet market,” said Todd Winter, President and CEO of True Blue Power. “We are proud to have a long-standing relationship with Textron Aviation, sharing in their commitment to bring innovation and best-in-class products to our industry.”

Our ultra-lightweight True Blue Power TB44 (44 amp-hour) lithium-ion batteries, weighing just 51.7 pounds (23.5 kg) per battery, reduce the aircraft’s empty weight by 60 pounds, adding payload capacity and increasing the aircraft’s cruising speed. The TB44 batteries’ capacity check schedule offers owners and operators the longest battery maintenance interval in its class and decreases service cost up to 90 percent. True Blue Power batteries are proven to deliver increased reliability and longer useful life

The list of industry-leading aircraft flying with True Blue Power lithium-ion batteries as standard equipment continues to grow. This includes the new Citation Longitude, Cirrus Aircraft G2 Vision Jet, Tecnam P2012 Traveller, Bell 505 Jet Ranger X, Robinson Helicopter R66 Turbine and Textron Aviation Defense Scorpion. Aftermarket installations through Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) include Bombardier DHC-8 100/200/300 series aircraft, Cessna Model 208 and 208B Caravans, King Air 350ER, Airbus Helicopters H130 and Robinson R44 helicopters.

True Blue Power DC-to-DC voltage converters provide power to the Longitude’s total air temperature pitot port heaters. Our DC-to-AC inverters provide power to the aircraft’s windshield heater system. True Blue Power inverters and voltage converters are lighter and smaller than competing units and require significantly less maintenance.

True Blue Power’s complete line of power solutions will be on display in the True Blue Power booth #C8717 throughout the NBAA Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition, October 22 – 24 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV.

True Blue Power Awarded FAA’s Highest Level of Lithium Battery Approval,
Receives Sweeping Certification of Three Main Ship Batteries

True Blue Power’s entire Gen5 main ship battery family is now TSO certified. The TB20 (20 amp-hour), TB30 (30 amp-hour) and TB40 (40 amp-hour) received an impressive C179b CLASS A-4B rating, meeting the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) latest and highest level of lithium battery requirements.

“We commend the FAA on continuously evaluating and improving the standards by which lithium products are determined safe,” said Brett Williams, True Blue Power Director of Engineering. “The latest certification requirements were significant and challenging, but equally important,” Williams continued. “The certification of all three Gen5 batteries at the same time, to such rigorous requirements, is uncommon and a great accomplishment.”

True Blue Power® Gen5 Battery CLASS A-4B Rating:

Battery Thermal Runaway Containment Level A Highest
Maximum Energy Category Level 4 Highest
Emissions Control Level B Completely contained within vent design

True Blue Power® Gen5 Battery DO-311A and DO-160 Testing Included (but was not limited to):

  • Battery Thermal Runaway Containment
  • Constant Voltage Discharge
  • Drop Impact Resistance
  • Explosion Containment
  • Over Discharge With/Without Protection
  • Overcharge Protection
  • Rated Capacity at Low/High Temperature
  • Rapid Discharge at High Temperature
  • Short Circuit With/Without Protection
  • Single Cell Thermal Runaway Containment

Maintenance-free / On-condition and Ultra-lightweight Advantages:

Engineered to address the many challenges lead-acid and Nickel Cadmium (NiCad) technologies present, our Gen5 family eliminates expensive battery maintenance, frequent capacity checks, low-voltage operational delays and most battery-related AOG situations. The TB20/30/40’s software-based Battery Management System (BMS) is certified to RTCA DO-178C, Design Assurance Level A. The sophisticated BMS provides constant monitoring, protection and real-time capacity data, enabling on-condition maintenance.

Our ultra-lightweight lithium-ion Gen5 batteries weigh up to 60% less and deliver more amp hours per pound than any other aircraft battery. This translates into more power for engine starts, more energy for emergency and back-up power, ultra-fast recharge and much longer life. Additional benefits include:

  • Real-time monitoring
    • Communicates real-time state-of-charge (SOC) and state-of-health (SOH) data

  • Built-in Test (BIT) Indicator
    • Provides SOC data without the need for external test equipment, load banks or auxiliary power

  • Battery configurations programmed for each specific aircraft
    • Charge current limit, end-of-life capacity, minimum dispatch capacity and engine-start readiness

  • Environmentally friendly
    • Significantly reduces carbon emissions, eliminates toxic metals and acid spills, and can be recycled or disposed of in area landfills

The newly-certified Gen5 lithium-ion battery family will be on display in the True Blue Power booth #C8717 throughout the NBAA Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition, October 22 – 24 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV.

The Future of USB Power, Delivered
True Blue Power unveils ultra-fast, 60-watt, USB-PD charging ports.

True Blue Power announced the company’s newest ultra-fast charger, the TA360 Series USB-PD Charging Port. Designed to power new and future electronic devices, the high-speed charging ports use USB Power Delivery (PD) technology to provide 60 watts of power per port.

“True Blue Power is at the forefront of USB product development. Adding this advanced USB-PD technology to our product line ensures pilots, passengers and crew have access to cutting-edge, in-flight USB power now and well into the future,” said Erik Ritzman, True Blue Power Director. “The TA360 series future-proofs aircraft for years to come.”

Ultra-fast charging / Maximum power

USB Power Delivery (PD) is the fastest charging technology available. It provides 4 times more power than traditional USB-A and USB-C chargers. USB-PD charging ports offer intelligent voltage output, allowing each specific device to receive the maximum level of power possible. While PD-compatible electronics benefit most from this new technology, the TA360 Series also supports traditional USB-A and USB-C devices.

60 watts of True Blue Power per port

The latest PD-compatible smartphones, tablets, electronic flight bags (EFB) and laptop computers benefit from the TA360 Series’ variable power output. The ultra-fast charger delivers 5–20 volts at 3 amps, providing up to 60 watts of power per PD port and is available in three primary configurations.
