Beech 300 Down At Tucson Airport

Aircraft Went Down On Takeoff Impacting Wall Near Main Terminal

A Beechcraft 300 went down on takeoff from Tucson Airport Monday afternoon, resulting in the fatal injury of the two people on board.

The accident occurred at about 12:40 p.m. local time, according to local police. A post-accident fire consumed the aircraft.

The Arizona Daily Star reports that airport public safety official John Ivanoff said in a news conference that the plane "hit the ground, skidded for some distance before coming to rest."

Ivanoff said the plane was departing for a flight to Mexico, but was not more specific about the destination. A video captured from inside the terminal shows the aircraft fully engulfed in flames.

Ivanoff said that commercial operations at the airport were not affected, and there were no injuries to anyone on the ground.

The last such accident at the airport occurred in April 1993, according to the paper.
