Broadband Satcom Product Gains Another Network Option for Worldwide Connectivity
Honeywell has received certification to operate its JetWave MCX Ka-band Satcom terminal using the US military Wideband Global Satcom (WGS) network.
The WGS certification means operators using the Honeywell JetWave MCX terminal have an additional network option for their terminal. The robust, reliable network will be available alongside Inmarsat’s commercial Global Xpress, as well as High-Capacity Cross Strap (HCX) military Ka beams for JetWave MCX users. Operators in WGS-participating countries can switch between WGS and other networks, and military and government customers can count on the WGS to support critical mission needs.
Honeywell hints at future network expansion too, possibly teeing up their JetWave product as a more flexible, reliable option for must-have service around the world now that the satcom market grows increasingly crowded. Their JetWave MCX satellite system provides high-speed Satcom and global in-flight broadband data connectivity on a number of Ka-band networks. Its omnivorous diet includes Inmarsat’s Global Xpress (GX) network, WGS, and an array of smaller, lesser-known commercial and military Ka-band networks.
“The WGS certification process is highly demanding and rigorous, which makes it one of the most challenging certifications for any Satcom manufacturer,” said Steve Hadden, vice president, Services & Connectivity, Honeywell Aerospace. “Now operators using Honeywell’s JetWave MCX terminal will have access to an additional high-capacity Satcom network — WGS. The WGS certification further addresses operators’ sensitivity to operating expenses post-installation since the capability for interface to additional networks should contribute to lower operating expenses over the life of the terminal.”
