Also: Drone Operating Standards, New UK Regs, EAA Wright Brothers Banquet, Air Methods Troubles

The FAA has granted type certification to Epic Aircraft for its E1000 all carbon fiber aircraft design, concluding a rigorous seven-year program that the company says will establish a new industry standard for performance, price and ramp appeal in the personal aircraft marketplace.

Epic has over 80 confirmed E1000 reservations from around the US, as well as Canada, Mexico, Central/South America, Europe, Russia, South Africa and Australia. One of the three parachutes designed to return the Starliner space capsule to Earth failed to deploy during Monday's pad abort test, but NASA officials said the system was designed to work with just two. The test was designed to verify each of Starliner’s systems will function not only separately, but in concert, to protect astronauts by carrying them safely away from the launch pad in the unlikely event of an emergency prior to liftoff. This was Boeing’s first flight test with Starliner as part of NASA’s Commercial Crew Program. Sport Aviation’’s last big event of the year is but a few days away. The DeLand Showcase is an annual, three-day event focused entirely on recreational flying and sport aviation. The Showcase is held at the DeLand Municipal Airport (KDED) in the town of DeLand, from the 14th to the 16th. Plus, the weather in early November is usually perfect for a fun Florida weekend. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
