Regional Wet-Lease Operator Now Uses iPad-Based EFB, Eliminates Paper Flight Materials
Latvian wet-lease charter carrier SmartLynx Airlines has been granted approval to operate in a paperless cockpit environment, using Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro on iPad as its electronic flight bag (EFB) solution. SmartLynx Airlines gained the clearance from the Latvian Civil Aviation Authority to eliminate bulky paper-based flight materials and increase operational efficiency after transitioning to use of Jeppesen’s iPad-based EFB solution.
“As a full service charter airline, we need to be able to access complete European flight information, and Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro on iPad allows us to access critical data quickly in digital form,” said Igors Bezsmertnijs, director, Flight Operations, SmartLynx Airlines. “Eliminating paper flight materials greatly increases efficiency, using current digital flight data that is available with the tap of a finger, instead of using paper that is filed by hand. This allows our pilots to focus on other essential activities both on the ground and in the air.”
All essential flight information, including aeronautical charts, documents and operation manuals are now easily viewed and accessed by SmartLynx pilots, using Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro. The unique, data-driven display of FliteDeck Pro allows pilots to view real time information to enhance proper decision making and workflow capabilities related to the variable charter leasing operations of SmartLynx Airlines.
“Charter leasing operations present unique challenges and FliteDeck Pro helps SmartLynx Airlines gain an advantage in a competitive marketplace, through use of fully digital flight information,” said Tim Huegel, director, Jeppesen Aviation Portfolio Management. “Gaining approval from the Latvian authority for a fleet-wide paperless operation is a significant milestone to reach and we look forward to helping SmartLynx achieve increased operational efficiency and reduced fuel consumption moving forward.”
