Drone Racing Established In South Africa

Drone Racing Africa Has An Educational Component Along With Competition

A fully-funded drone racing league has been established in South Africa.

The mission of Drone Racing Africa is to encourage everyone from young people to adults to learn how to control a drone as well as race them competitively.

On its website, the DRA says they hope to create a new market in which sports meets technology through offering introductory courses to drone flying.

DRAs focus is on offering short courses with the objective of graduating students to more advanced training as well as establishing participants for a new sport.

DRA will create the link between the commercial application of UAV’s to the fun sporting side of the industry. The intention of communicating the benefits of involvement in the sport to align with marketing principals of identified strategic partners and sponsor entities in the education, technology, FMCG and communications industry.

AUVSI reports that Drone Racing Africa CEO Simon Robinson told IT News Africa that DRA understands "the importance of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) development for children and the theoretical component will be designed with these needs in mind, so that children are educated on both flight theory relevance along with an important application to multiple uses within the wider drone industry as well as the safety and the law that applies to flying drones.”
