Opens Order for 100 eVTOL Aircraft, Joint Working Group for Urban Mobility
Sustainable Embraer subsidiary Eve Air Mobility has had a busy week, signing a deal with SkyWest for a non-binding letter of intent to purchase 100 of Eve's eVTOL aircraft, once ready for deployment.
The MOU will see the two companies work to develop a portfolio of services to optimize eVTOL performance in a selection of early adopter metro areas. They will dedicate a composite team to urban air mobility flight options, with the first order of business focused on vertiport specifications and integrated vehicle design as well as a certification roadmap for eVTOL operations. Skywest's considerable experience in flight operations and regulatory compliance will be invaluable in designing a suitable, scratch-built aerial transit system.
The collaboration between Skywest and Eve parent Embraer goes back decades, bringing the largest regional airline operator, and its equivalent manufacturer, together on their next step in smaller, more urban, more agile passenger service. In the MOU signed between them , the duo agreed to "form a working group to jointly evaluate the utilization of Eve’s next-generation air traffic management and fleet operating solutions as the Urban Air Mobility industry prepares to scale over the next decade." How such a group will function remains to be seen, but the addition of Skywest's expertise in regulatorily compliant operations
is likely a boon to the manufacturer's effort to provide widespread AAM aircraft all over the world.
“Eve’s partnership with SkyWest gives the very best to every passenger that will be served by this alliance. The combined experience and operational knowledge of SkyWest and Eve, through its partnership with Embraer, will deliver a robust and mature operation to SkyWest’s vast presence. We are very excited to offer SkyWest an excellent experience that will serve to increase accessibility for all,” said Andre Stein, 'co-CEO' of Eve.
