ICG Unveils New Iridium Products For Business Aircraft Market

Deriviatives Of Company's NxtLink  Series SatPhones

International Communications Group (ICG) has announced the introduction of two derivatives of its NxtLink series ICS-120A and -220A satellite based communications products designed specifically to add more features and capabilities to the executive jet marketplace. The new ICS-120B single channel and -220B dual channel devices operate over the Iridium Satellite network and offer global voice, fax and low rate data services.

Derived from ICG’s successful air transport transceivers which are currently installed on commercial airline fleets, they share the same quality and reliability, but may be installed as stand-alone units or tailored to fit the specific requirements of the aircraft. “The ICS-120B and 220B are next generation Iridium devices that are compliant with the new European Link 2000 and NextGen Datalink requirements. They provide business aircraft operators with immediate and inexpensive voice and fax solutions and offer an upgrade path for emerging Datalink technologies in the future, as  well,” said Ray Larkin, ICG Director of Regional Sales.

The 120B and 220B are primarily voice systems but their architecture permits the connection of a variety of user devices including cordless or corded and retractor reel handset phone models, which ICG also produces. The units’ design also offers optional fax capabilities as well as available upgrades for future flight deck Datalink services such as FANS1/A, CPDLC and ADS-C messaging.

Both the single channel ICS-120B and the dual channel ICS- 220B provide standard CTU features such as intercom calling, call transfer, conferencing, follow-on dialing and voice prompts. Active noise reduction, which reduces cabin noise transmitted in the air to ground direction, is an especially beneficial feature for smaller aircraft cabins where ambient noise tends to be a more significant problem. Designed into an ARINC 600, 2 Modular Concept Unit (MCU) size Line Replaceable Unit (LRU), an ICS-120B or -220B can be installed on any size aircraft as the sole communications device or as an additional/restorative communications system. In addition, both models operate with external configuration modules incorporating SIM cards for the Iridium LBTS and store aircraft unique configuration information. This also allows the assigned telephone number to remain with the aircraft and not the transceivers.
