One of the biggest attractions at Oshkosh 2022 is the very first appearance the high-winged RV-15... and since it showed up, flyers have been flocking to see it for themselves. Aviation World Mourns EAA's Tom Poberezny

Tom Poberezny, Former President And Chairman, Goes West At 75

AirVenture 2022 got the kind of start it did not want... Tom Poberezny, the retired president and chairman of the Experimental Aircraft Association, is being mourned by the EAA and aviation communities after his death early Monday (July 25) at age 75, following a brief illness. Poberezny was EAA president from 1989 until 2010, and also served as chairman for two years until his retirement in 2011.

New Pilots to Be Honored at AirVenture Wing Pinning Ceremony

Able Flight is a North Carolina-based non-profit organization about the laudable endeavor of enabling people with disabilities to pursue flight as a hobby, or train for aviation industry careers. The organization has happily and proudly announced that six wheelchair-bound graduates of its flight-training program will be honored at a pilot-wings pinning ceremony at EAA AirVenture. The event will take place at Oshkosh’s Theater in the Wood’s on Tuesday, 26 July at 10:00. Among the new pilots are a U.S. military veteran wounded in combat, and another veteran disabled by an accident.

Microsoft AirSim Platform: A Flight Training Simulator—For Drones

Seattle tech titan, Microsoft, has launched a software platform that enables drone operators to train the artificial intelligence systems of their autonomous air-vehicles. Subject platform—dubbed AirSim—constitutes, in effect, a simulator for drones. NTSB Prelim: Mooney Aircraft Corp. M20K

The Pilot Responded, However He Did Not Contact The Departure Controller

On June 10, 2022, about 0803 Pacific daylight time, a Mooney M20K, N305L was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near Camarillo, California. The pilot was fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. The pilot had flown in from his home base of Phoenix Deer Valley Airport (DVT) the day before the accident to play golf in the Camarillo area, and the accident flight was to be his return  trip. About 0730 he contacted Leidos Flight Service and requested an abbreviated weather briefing. The briefer stated that a marine layer was present in Camarillo, and the pilot responded that it was, “socked

“It is not lost on us that Tom’s passing occurred on the opening day of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, the event he led into world prominence as its chairman beginning in the 1970s, Tom’s legacy is tremendous in the world of aviation with his personal achievements as well as the growth of EAA, especially the development of the current EAA Aviation Center in Oshkosh, the Young Eagles program, and the creation of Sport Pilot nearly 20 years ago. He will be greatly missed but more importantly, he will be remembered for all that he did for EAA and aviation.
