AMA Continues Aggressive Fight Against FAA Shortsightedness

The Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) has filed a Petition for Review in the United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit challenging the FAA’s Interpretation of the Special Rule for Model Aircraft published in the Federal Register on June 25, 2014. The AMA believes that the FAA’s Interpretive Rule is contrary to the text and intent of the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012, Public Law 112-95, and violates Congress’ specific prohibition on any new rules or regulations regarding model aircraft that are operated pursuant to a community-based organization’s standards. He was enthusiastic about his plan but his problems started when none of the local flight instructors would provide instruction in his airplane.
