Members of the Civil Air Patrol’s Louisiana Wing continued
Hurricane Gustav damage assessment missions Monday with seven new
photo sites, primarily for the Louisiana Department of Health &
Hospitals. To date, the wing has flown four days, 42 sorties and
more than 83 hours in CAP Cessna 172s and 182s to photograph dams,
river locks, power plants, power lines and gas plants.
Non-Profit Organization Issues Call for Aid in Time of
Crisis
The Coast Guard Foundation, a non-profit organization committed
to the education, welfare and morale of all Coast Guard members and
their families, announced Monday it has established an emergency
Family Disaster Relief Fund. In response to the September 4 downing
of a Coast Guard HH-65 Dolphin helicopter off the coast of
Honolulu, the Coast Guard Foundation is asking for financial
support to assist the families of the lost crew.
Another week... another first flight for a new Sikorsky
helicopter. The helomaker announced Monday it recently completed
the first flight of a Naval Hawk S-70B helicopter. This initial
helicopter was built at the Sikorsky HAWK WORKS at Schweizer
Aircraft.
Boeing recently announced that it has been awarded a $33 million
US Air Force Foreign Military Sales contract to provide a C-17
Aircrew Training System (ATS) to the Royal Australian Air Force
(RAAF). The contract marks the first international sale of the
system.
