Seven MiGs and Seventy Years Later …

In the bleak November of 1952, as Americans alternated between cringing at the prospect of nuclear war with the Soviet Union and giggling at Ozzie and Harriet, U.S. Navy pilot E. Royce Williams and his Grumman F9F-5 Panther engaged and defeated no fewer than seven Soviet MiG-15 fighters over the Sea of Japan. On 18 November 1952, at the height of the Korean Conflict, Lieutenant E. Royce Williams Jr. and three other F9F Panther pilots launched from the USS Oriskany in the midst of a maritime blizzard. Their mission: Intercept seven Soviet MiG-15 fighters south of Vladivostok.

The Air Force Does Some Serious Heavy-Lifting For Oshkosh

C-17 Highlights Air Mobility Command at Oshkosh

A C-17 Globemaster III based out of Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington state will attend EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2022, and will be showcasing the capabilities of the U.S. Air Force’s Air Mobility Command. The aircraft will be at AirVenture on Sunday, July 24, through Sunday, July 31, based on Boeing Plaza. It will also fly aerial demonstrations on Thursday, July 28; Saturday, July 30; and Sunday, July 31, during the afternoon air shows starting at 2:30 p.m. During these demo flights, you will see the pilots push the C-17 to its limits and demonstrate the use of advanced technology within the aircraft.
