Martin-Baker Aircraft Co. Ltd. has been competitively selected
to build new ejection seats for each of 509 T-38 Talon advanced jet
trainers in service with the US Air Force Air Education and
Training Command. The seats are designed to significantly improve
the life saving capability of the T-38 escape system.
Retired Navy Vice Adm. James B. Stockdale, Medal of Honor
recipient, former Viet Nam prisoner of war (POW), naval aviator and
test pilot, academic, and American hero died Tuesday, July 5, 2005,
at his home in Coronado, Calif. He was 81 years old and had been
battling Alzheimer's disease.
As those of us in the piston end of things are only vaguely
aware, jets measure fuel less often in gallons than in pounds. An
Air Force press release from June 30th shows an F-16 Viper breaking
off after taking the billionth pound of fuel.
