With test pilot Graham Tomlinson at the controls, the short
takeoff/vertical landing (STOVL) Lockheed Martin F-35B Lightning II
streaked into blue Texas skies Wednesday, marking the first flight
of an aircraft that will provide a combination of capabilities
never before available: stealth, supersonic speed and STOVL basing
flexibility.
Boeing delivered the United Kingdom's sixth C-17 Globemaster III
to the Royal Air Force (RAF) this week during a ceremony at the
company's Long Beach, CA C-17 manufacturing facility. The delivery
completes the RAF's initial order for the advanced airlifter.

Defense Department officials called a US air strike Tuesday in
Pakistan near the Afghanistan border "legitimate" and
"self-defense," and said they are investigating the attack with
Pakistani officials.
Says USAF Had "Little Confidence" In Boeing's Performance
In one of the most inflammatory missives to date to come
from Northrop Grumman regarding the US Air Force's selection of the
Northrop/EADS KC-45A over Boeing's KC-767A, the American defense
contractor said the USAF pointedly gave Boeing a rating of "little
confidence" in being able to meet its performance promises, based
on its past experience.
On Wednesday, Sikorsky delivered the 30th UH-60M Black Hawk
helicopter to the US Army for the 4-101 Assault Battalion, making
it the First Unit Equipped (FUE) with the aircraft.
