Fire Scout UAV Lost After Impacting USS Charleston

The MQ-8B Fell Into The Sea And Was Not Recovered

An unmanned helicopter crashed into the side of USS Charleston (LCS 18) after taking off from the ship around 3:40 p.m., April 26. Some 30 airframes are known to be in service. No one was injured, and the Littoral Combat Ship continued to safely operate after the incident involving the MQ-8B Fire Scout vertical take-off and landing tactical unmanned aerial vehicle (VTUAV).

Coast Guard Opens Seasonal Aviation Support Facility In Alaska

USCG Mobilizes Forward Operating Location Cordova, Alaska

Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak crews opened up a seasonal aviation support facility Saturday in Cordova, Alaska in advance of summer fisheries. Air Station Kodiak aircrews transferred an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and equipment to Cordova to reduce the response time to the Gulf of Alaska in anticipation of historically increased maritime activity in that region during the summer.
