Progress Continues on DarkAero's Upcoming Aircraft

Up-and-Comer Offers Update on Lightweight LSA

The DarkAero team updated followers on the current laundry list of tasks to prepare their first prototype for flight, with work continuing on the fuel pump, aerodynamics, cooling system, and panel. Throughout July, the team worked on the fuel system, checking out their newly revised fuel sump tank for leaks and til tests. Slosh tests and a variety of positional adjustment tried to simulate the ham-handed maneuvering of a novice pilot to see how much - if any - fuel could transfer between the left and right tanks under a worst case scenario.

Another... Cirrus SF50 Jet Bent in Bend

Visions of Troubles Past

A Cirrus SF50 Vision Jet was damaged when its nose-gear apparently collapsed during a landing at Oregon’s Bend Municipal Airport (BDN). The aircraft’s three occupants were reportedly unharmed. The incident occurred at approximately 12:30 PDT on the afternoon of Thursday, 03 August 2023 and resulted in a two hour closure of the airport’s single, 5,200 x 75-foot Runway 16/34.

A First in the First State

Summit Aviation Inc.—a Greenwich AeroGroup company headquartered in Middletown, Delaware and a factory-authorized service center for Bell, Cessna, Raisbeck Engineering, and Sikorsky—has earned the distinction of being the first Delaware employer to register Apprenticeship Standards with the state’s Department of Labor, Division of Employment and Training, Office of Apprenticeship. In addition, Summit Aviation has successfully completed an Apprentice Agreement, thereby distinguishing the company as the first in Delaware to introduce the Aviation Maintenance Mechanic Registered Apprenticeship program.

NTSB Prelim: Piper PA46

(Pilot) Experienced A Medical Emergency And “Blacked Out”

On July 15, 2023, at 1515 eastern daylight time, a Piper PA-46-500TP airplane, N444RR, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts. The pilot was fatally injured, and the passenger sustained minor injuries. The flight was operated as Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 91 personal flight.According to the passenger, the pilot had just performed a go-around maneuver while on approach to runway 06 at Martha’s Vineyard Airport (MVY), Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts, when he experienced a medical emergency and “blacked out.”
