NTSB: Aircraft Approached Runway From Opposite Directions In NY Accident

Winds At The Uncontrolled Airfield Reported Calm At The Time, Three Fatally Injured

Three people were fatally injured in July when a Mooney M20F went down after executing a missed approach to an uncontrolled airport in North Elba, NY. The transient pilot of the Mooney was apparently trying to avoid another, locally-based airplane that was approaching the same runway from the opposite direction, and stalled on the missed approach.

FAA Publishes Repair Station Final Rule

Drops Changes To Repair Station Rating System

In what is being described by AEA as a very public win, the FAA has published its final rule regulating repair stations that drops the changes to the repair station rating system and retained only the authority to deny an application for a new repair station certificate if the applicant or certain associated key individuals had materially contributed to the circumstances that caused a previous repair station certificate revocation action.

FAA Implements Safety Reporting Program For Office Of Airports Employees

Pilot Program Allows Employees In The Office To Report Safety Concerns Without Fear Of Retaliation

The FAA, in partnership with the National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA), has formally announced a safety reporting program called the Airport Voluntary Reporting System (AVRS). The program allows FAA employees who work in the Office of Airports to elevate safety concerns without fear of retaliation. Employees began using the AVRS on July 2, 2014.
