Wisk eVTOL to Make AirVenture Debut

Wisk Aero, the California-based, Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) concern and wholly-owned Boeing subsidiary, announced on 12 July that its sixth-generation air taxi will make its EAA AirVenture debut in 2023. In addition to displaying its eVTOL air taxi at the Wisk chalet, the company’s AirVenture 2023 campaign will see the convening of a special forum addressing the impact of autonomous air taxis on general aviation.

Aerobility Scholarship Awarded to Hastings Woman

Venturing Into a Brave New World

On 10 July 2023, Aerobility announced a 35-year-old woman from Hastings in East Sussex had learned the basics of flying a light aircraft after having been awarded one of the organization’s scholarships. Ann-Marie ‘Az’ Baldwin, who is diagnosed with ADHD and Autism, remarked of her achievement: “I applied for a scholarship because I love aircraft and I am always looking up when planes go over. I didn’t know that it would ever be an option to fly.”

Footage of Utah Firefighter Rescue Released

Up from the Ashes

Newly-released video footage shot by a Utah Department of Public Safety Aero Bureau helicopter crew captured the hoist rescues of two firefighters from the Cedar Knoll wildfire in the Beehive State’s Manti-La Sal National Forest. The video shows one of the firefighters being hoisted aboard the rescue helicopter on a stretcher. The second firefighter was lifted out of the inferno by a responding crew-member via the hoist.

On 11 July 2023, Twelve commenced construction of a commercial-scale E-Jet fuel production facility in the central Washington city of Moses Lake. The plant’s ground-breaking ceremony was attended by controversial Washington Governor Jay Inslee, Washington state Senator Julie Warnick, and featured a panel discussion of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) partaken in by Twelve co-founder and chief science officer Dr. Etosha Cave, Alaska Airlines vice-president of strategic sourcing & supply chain Ann Ardizzone, and senior director of Microsoft’s climate innovation fund Brandon Middaugh.

NTSB Prelim: Cessna 177

Pilot Then Verified The Fuel Quantity Remaining In The Tanks Using A Fuel Stick And Subsequently Determined There Was Adequate Fuel

On June 26, 2023, about 0805 central daylight time (CDT), a Cessna 177 airplane, N3138T, was substantially damaged during an accident near Hot Springs, Arkansas. The pilot was fatally injured, and the student pilot-rated passenger sustained serious injuries. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal cross-country flight. According to the passenger, the pilot had recently purchased the airplane and they were flying it to their homebase near Elizabethtown, Kentucky.
