French Airframer’s One-Shot at Oshkosh

Elixir Aircraft—the French aerospace concern that asserts complexity is the reason current aircraft suffer from failures and are expensive to operate—has announced it intends to broaden its presence in the North American market. To promote awareness and sales of its Part 23 certified 912-iS and 915-iS aircraft, the company plans to invest in a dedicated U.S. sales and marketing team. Further, more substantial investment is being considered in a U.S. assembly facility and demonstration site—with an eye toward eventual U.S. production of the company’s aircraft.

NTSB Prelim: Piper PA-28RT-201

Examination Of The Engine Revealed A Hole In The Crankcase Near The No. 4 Cylinder

On June 6, 2022, about 1610 central daylight time, a Piper PA-28RT-201, N160LL, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Panama City, Florida. The pilot and one passenger were fatally injured and another passenger sustained serious injuries. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. The morning of the accident, the airplane arrived at Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport (ECP), Panama City, Florida, and parked on a local fixed based operator (FBO) ramp at 0941.

AD: Diamond Aircraft Industries Inc. Airplanes

AD 2022-13-06 Describes The Unsafe Condition As Baggage Nets Installed With Defective Buckles

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for all Diamond Aircraft Industries Inc. Model DA 40, DA 40 F, and DA 40 NG airplanes. This AD was prompted by mandatory continuing airworthiness information (MCAI) originated by an aviation authority of another country to identify and correct an unsafe condition on an aviation product. The MCAI describes the unsafe condition as baggage nets installed with defective buckles, which may result in failure of the baggage net to restrain the baggage or cargo, which could lead to injury to the occupants in the case of an emergency landing.
