Susan A. Northrup, M.D., MPH Takes Over As Federal Air Surgeon

Dr. Northrup Is A Retired U.S. Air Force Colonel

Along with a number of other changes announced as America transitions its leadership; there is a new Federal Air Surgeon. Dr. Susan A. Northrup is the Federal Air Surgeon for the FAA. In this capacity, she leads the Office of Aerospace Medicine in Washington, D.C. She leads strategic management of the FAA's aviation medical programs, which oversee all pilots. Together with the Deputy Federal Air Surgeon, she shares responsibility for the direction and management of all FAA medical programs.

NTSB Prelim: Diamond Aircraft Ind Inc DA 40

Purpose Of The Flight Was To Conduct “Transition Training” In The Airplane

On January 3, 2021, about 1118 eastern standard time, a Diamond Aircraft DA 40, N489RS, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident at Portsmouth International Airport at Pease (PSM), Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The flight instructor and the pilot-rated student were not injured. The flight was conducted under the provisions of Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91. The purpose of the flight was to conduct “transition training” in the airplane for the pilot. After a short flight, the pilot performed a landing on runway 34 at PSM.
