Eight US soldiers returning from Iraq to the US for some
well-deserved R&R received a very pleasant surprise
when they boarded American Airlines flight 866 on June 29 from
Atlanta to Chicago.
A safety pin needs to be inserted on a parked B747 to
prevent the nosewheel being inadvertently retracted. It seems that
in this case... well... it just wasn't.
"The soldiers were very, very happy, and the whole
aircraft had a different feeling; the other two first-class
passengers wanted to give up their seats, too, but they couldn't
find any more soldiers."

Attendant Lorrie Gammon, commenting on how eight first class
passengers on a flight from Atlanta to Chicago traded their seats
with eight US soldiers on their way back from Iraq for two weeks of
R&R.
