Airport Improvement Program
(AIP)
Established under the Airport and Airway Improvement Act of
1982, this program provides grants to public agencies - and, in
some cases, to private owners and entities - for the planning and
development of public-use airports that are included in the
National Plan of Integrates Airport Systems. Eligible projects
include those improvements related to enhancing airport safety,
capacity, security and environmental concerns.
Aero-Linx: USAF GPS Fact
Sheet
The Air Force has a succinct fact sheet detailing the
basics and overall operation of the GPS Constellation. The Global
Positioning System is a constellation of orbiting satellites that
provides navigation data to military and civilian users all over
the world. The system is operated and controlled by the 50th Space
Wing, located at Schriever Air Force Base, Colo.
"The GA Report makes a recommendation that the Secretary
of Defense appoint a single authority to oversee development of GPS
space, ground control, and user equipment assets, to ensure they
are synchronized, well executed, and potential disruptions are
minimized. DOD reportedly concurred with GAO's
recommendations."
