Federal Aviation Administration officials issued an internal
memo earlier this year, saying the agency will pass for now on
upgrading its computer systems -- citing hardware requirements for
Microsoft's widely-hyped Windows Vista operations system as a major
reason.
The CAP, the auxiliary of the USAF, has more than 56,000 members,
including 27,000 cadets. It boasts the world's largest fleets (535)
of single-engine, piston aircraft and has the nation's most
extensive communications network.
When an aircraft aborts a landing after it has already started
its landing approach and has to follow a set path to leave the
airspace surrounding the terminal.
