Airborne 01.08.18: John Young Goes West, AirVenture 2018, Air Power Museum

The consummate aviator, and despite all his accolades, a guy who still had a flair for fun, Astronaut John Young, has gone west. Among his accomplishments, Young walked on the Moon during Apollo 16 and commanded the first space shuttle mission. He died Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, at the age of 87 from complications of pneumonia. The restoration of an RAF P-40 Kittyhawk that was found in the African desert is causing a great deal of consternation among aviation historians, but there is apparently nothing that can be done.
