Safely integrating drones into the National Airspace System is a key priority for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and our third-annual Drone Safety Awareness Week helps ensure drone operators understand that they are pilots who must fly safely. As part of the agency’s education efforts, FAA Administrator Steve Dickson will participate in an Instagram Live event with Keith Rosentreter, owner of Alien Drones YouTube Channel, Eno Umoh, Co-Founder Global Air Drone Academy, and Dawn Zoldi, president of UAS Colorado.

Team Presents The Community With A Collision Avoidance Safety System

Becker Avionics and Iris Automation, have entered into a strategic partnership to increase the situational awareness of general aviation pilots and advance uncrewed aerial vehicle safety. The two companies will team up to develop a non-required safety enhancing equipment system to detect and warn pilots of nearby aircraft. The collision avoidance safety system uses computer vision and machine learning to "see" when another aircraft is approaching from outside the pilot's field of view, and poses a risk to the equipped aircraft, issuing 3D audio warnings. Milestone Achieved, New Ground Covered

A historic limitation of long-endurance UAS has been their inability to operate at extreme northern or southern latitudes. Many legacy SATCOM datalinks can become less reliable above the Arctic or below the Antarctic Circle – approximately 66 degrees north. In a flight that originated from its Flight Test and Training Center near Grand Forks, ND, General Atomics Aeronautical Systems flew a company-owned MQ-9A “Big Wing” configured Unmanned Aircraft System north through Canadian airspace past the 78th parallel.
