Still No Pilot Contract Despite Airline Profits, Union Says
The pilots of Spirit Airlines, as represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA), responded to Spirit Airlines’ financial results for the second quarter of 2016, which were announced on Friday, July 29. The company reported an adjusted net income of $78.5 million, an increase of 4.9 percent compared to the same quarter in 2015. This comes just a month after the pilots sought mediation from the National Mediation Board in order to achieve an amended contract.
During a committee meeting last month, the European Commission voted for an amendment to regulations that should lead to authorization of commercial trips with single-engine turbine aircraft within six months. The remaining technical steps include a formal scrutiny period by the European Parliament and European Council to ensure the change in regulations is legally compliant.
