Emirates Launches 'Emvironment' Program

Says Environmental Commitment Began In 1997 -- "Well Before It Was Fashionable"

With its first Airbus A380 superjumbo now flying between Dubai and the US, Emirates recently unveiled a series of new initiatives to improve the environmental performance of its operations worldwide. The program, branded Emvironment, includes the adoption of a new environmental policy for the Emirates Group, a global staff awareness campaign, and internal goals to reduce energy consumption and waste, as well as increase recycling and training.

If there was a piece of equipment onboard your planes that adds weight, but is seldom used -- and may be of dubious assistance if it is called upon -- might it be prudent to remove that equipment, in order to save those pounds and, by extension, even a small bit of fuel? Another International Airline Accident Claims Lives

68 Listed As dead In Iran-Bound Kyrgyz Itek Air 737 Crash

Tragedy has struck the international airline community again as an Itek Air 737 went down, killing at least 68 people, according to current reports.The Boeing 737-200 was owned by Kyrgyz carrier, Itek Air, but operated by Iran Aseman Airlines. The aircraft went down near Manas International Airport, near the capital city of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek. Ninety people were reported aboard and some 22 are currently reported to have survived.
