US President Barack Obama took some flak last week from People
for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, when he swatted a fly during
a TV interview. But the attention of animal rights activists is
being diverted this week by happenings in New York.
The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace
Workers (IAM) District 142 has confirmed membership ratification of
a new collective bargaining agreement with Southwest Airlines. The
four-year agreement covers the carrier's 5,300 customer service and
reservation agents and was approved by 54 percent of the members
voting.
Creditor To Help Struggling Airline Out Of Chapter 11
Frontier Airlines Holdings, Inc. announced Monday it has entered
into an investment agreement with Republic Airways Holdings, Inc.,
by which Republic will serve as equity sponsor for Frontier's plan
of reorganization and purchase 100% of the equity in the
reorganized company for $108.75 million.
The Air Transport Association of America (ATA), the industry
trade organization for the leading U.S. airlines, today reported
that passenger revenue fell 26 percent in May 2009 versus the same
month in 2008 - the seventh consecutive month in which passenger
revenue has fallen from the prior year.
Last Thursday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers, from
Newark Liberty International Airport discovered more than 45 pounds
of cocaine in a duffel bag while conducting baggage inspections on
a flight arriving from the Dominican Republic.
