Carriers Speed Up Plans To Cut Flights, Ground Planes
Hoping to staunch the bleeding now, on Thursday both Continental
Airlines and American Airlines followed up announcements of sizable
first quarter losses, with plans to drastically scale back capacity
and ground their less fuel-efficient aircraft.
The proposed joining of Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines
faces many harsh questions in the months ahead from federal
antitrust regulators, wary the new "global airline" might prove too
monopolistic... but to hear Richard Anderson and Doug Steenland
speak, one would think all that's required for the deal to happen
are some forms to be completed.

You probably saw this coming. In the aftermath of news Delta Air
Lines and Northwest Airlines plan to join forces to create the
world's largest airline, pilots at two competitors also rumored to
be on the brink of merging -- United Airlines, and Continental
Airlines -- said they would aim to block any merger between their
carriers that fails to take employees into consideration.
One lawmaker concerned about the effects of a proposed
Delta/Northwest merger on his home district happens to be --
