Collective Vote Of Union's 8,000 Members Decisively Turn Down New Contract
The membership of the Southwest Airlines Pilots' Association (SWAPA) has voted to reject a new contract with Southwest Airlines. After a 45-day education and voting period the membership voted 38.36 percent in favor and 61.64 percent against ratification of this federally-mediated agreement. In a strong turnout, over 95.1 percent of the union's members cast a ballot on this referendum.
Deal Can Reach Up To 52 Airplanes If Options Are Exercised
Boeing and Korean Air have finalized the airline's order of 30 737 MAXs and two additional 777-300ER (Extended Range) jetliners valued at nearly $4 billion at current list prices. The airline also has options for additional 737 MAXs as part of the order, which was previously announced as a commitment during the Paris Air Show in June.
Aerospace Transmission Technologies Formed By Rolls-Royce, Liebherr-Aerospace
Rolls-Royce and Liebherr-Aerospace have named their 50:50 joint venture to develop manufacturing capability and capacity for the power gearbox for Rolls-Royce’s new UltraFan engine design. The new company, to be known as Aerospace Transmission Technologies GmbH, officially started operations at the site of Liebherr-Aerospace in Friedrichshafen last month.

National flag carrier Air New Zealand and the European turboprop aircraft manufacturer ATR have signed a contract for the purchase of 15 additional ATR 72-600s. The deal is valued at some $375 million.
