IATA: Demand Growth Strengthens In November

Airline Industry 'In A Good Place' As 2018 Begins

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced global passenger traffic results for November 2017 showing continued robust demand. Total revenue passenger kilometers (RPKs) rose 8.0% compared to November 2016, the fastest growth rate in five months and up from a 7.3% year-over-year rise in October. Capacity (available seat kilometers or ASKs) increased by 6.3%, and load factor rose 1.2 percentage points to 80.2%.

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has released its January 2018 Air Travel Consumer Report on air carrier data compiled for the month of November 2017.  In November, the reporting carriers posted an on-time arrival rate of 88.3 percent, up from both the 86.5 percent on-time rate in November 2016 and the 84.8 percent mark in October 2017, and the second highest rate ever reported. The highest rate was 88.6 in November 2009.
