In the wee hours of the start of the weekend a new version of the FAA Reauthorization bill was published... and the news is mixed. The 1200 page document was released September 22nd at 0040ET... to initially mixed reviews. Some initial notes show that this five year bill does not include the draconian Privatization effort that has been aggressively fought by nearly everyone in aviation and the onerous ATC fees levied on EAA and other venues have been dropped. There is also some additional language in support of the Pilot’s Bill of Rights. GA groups are analyzing the 1200 page doc now. And the news for model aviation may be dire... ESA chooses Thales To Support Data Processing From Sentinel 2A And 2B Satellites

Unprecedented Data Volumes To Be Processed In Record Time To Serve Planet Surveillance And Protection

Thales Alenia Space, the joint company between Thales and Leonardo, have announced that it has signed a contract with the European Space Agency (ESA) to provide operations, maintenance and upgrade services for the Payload Data Ground Segment (PDGS) supporting the Sentinel 2A and 2B Earth observation satellites. The service contract is worth $34 million for the period from May 2018 to December 2021. It is being carried out for the European Commission as part of the Copernicus program, in particular the ground segment subsystem of the Copernicus Space Component (CSC).
