PHASA-35 Completes First Stratospheric Flight

BAE Systems' Pseudo Satellite Soars Over New Mexico

Engineers have completed a successful stratospheric flight trial of BAE Systems’ High Altitude Pseudo Satellite (HAPS) Uncrewed Aerial System (UAS). Dubbed PHASA-35, the UAS soared, over a 24-hour period, to an altitude of more than 66,000-feet MSL before landing safely. The flight-testing campaign was undertaken in New Mexico, and allowed engineers to assess the experimental solar-electric drone’s performance within the outer-reaches of the Earth’s atmosphere.

In Space, Nobody Can Hear the Hype

Virgin Galactic, the California-based spaceflight subsidiary of archetypal billionaire-cool-guy Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Group, has made public the identities of the individuals to be borne aloft during the company’s second commercial spaceflight. The upcoming mission, dubbed Galactic 02, will fly a number of private passengers to the edge of space before returning them to New Mexico's Spaceport America facility.
