NASA's Space Launch System Program Kicks Off Preliminary Design Review

Process Is Expected To Last Several Weeks

NASA is beginning a preliminary design review for its Space Launch System (SLS). This major program assessment will allow development of the agency's new heavy-lift rocket to move from concept to initial design.

The FAA is requiring Operation Migration to acquire new airplanes to lead endangered whooping cranes from their summer range to Florida for the winter in coming years, and the pilots flying those airplanes will have private pilot licenses. Prioritizes Support For Long-Term 'Core' Exploration Goals

The Space Subcommittee of the U.S. House Science Committee held a hearing Wednesday to review draft legislation to reauthorize programs at NASA for two years, including a topline budget of over $16.8 billion dollars for the agency, which is consistent with the requirements of the Budget Control Act. The draft bill directs the administration to focus on core programs such as the Space Launch System (SLS) and Orion crew capsule, the International Space Station, the James Webb Space Telescope and the Commercial Crew Program.
