Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi is showing off a model of the company's concept for a VTOL flying taxi it hopes to have in revenue service in two years. Khosrowshahi said that the concept is to "create the network around those vehicles so that regular people can take these taxis in the air for longer distances when they want to avoid traffic at affordable prices." Uber chief product officer Jeff Holden said that the program is intended to be "community friendly". Students from Houston area schools who participated in the Genes in Space challenge, will talk to astronauts on the International Space Station during an events hosted by Boeing and Space Center Houston, the official visitor center of NASA’s Johnson Space Center. The Air Force Office of Scientific Research has awarded Florida International University (FIU) a $4.8 million grant to launch the Center for Physically Reconfigurable and Deployable Multifunctional Antennas. The center will be led and directed by researcher Stavros Georgakopoulos, associate professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at FIU's College of Engineering and Computing and inventor of foldable origami antenna systems.
