The Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center has announced the certification of the SpaceX, Falcon 9 Launch System for national security space missions. This milestone is the culmination of a two-year effort on the part of the Air Force and SpaceX to execute the certification process and re-introduce competition into the Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle program. As NASA continues experimenting and testing for flights to Mars, they are also looking at the technology required to travel at supersonic speeds in the Martian atmosphere.
