Charles Elachi To Retire As JPL Director Next Year

Began Career At JPL In 1970

Charles Elachi, the director of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory since 2001, is retiring at the end of June 2016, according to a NASA news release. He will become professor emeritus at the California Institute of Technology, where he currently serves as a vice president and professor of Electrical Engineering and Planetary Science.

FAA Administrator Michael Huerta has announced the membership of the Unmanned Aircraft Systems Registration Task Force. Earl Lawrence, Director of the FAA’s UAS Integration Office, and Dave Vos of Google X will co-chair the group. Department of Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx and Administrator Huerta announced the formation of the Task Force last week. Task Force membership was by invitation only and participation is voluntary.
