Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport, has announced Canada’s new rules for remotely piloted aircraft systems. The new rules, which will come into force on June 1, 2019, apply to all drone pilots flying drones between 250 grams and 25 kilograms that are operated within the drone pilot’s visual-line-of-sight, regardless of whether the drone is flown for fun, work or research. The new simplified rules reflect significant consultations with Canadians and the industry. The final regulations introduce two main categories of drone operation: basic and advanced. Last Batch Of Iridium NEXT Satellites In Orbit

Constellation Now Fully Deployed

The last batch of Iridium NEXT satellites, built by Thales Alenia Space, the joint company between Thales and Leonardo, has been successfully launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. With this successful eighth launch, the Iridium NEXT fleet is now fully deployed to low earth orbit. The operational constellation comprises 66 satellites, at an altitude of about 485 miles, organized in six orbital planes, each containing 11 satellites, plus nine spare satellites in a parking orbit and six more ground spares.

Middle-school students living in Alabama are eligible to attend a special Space Camp program free of charge. Students ages 12 to 14 may apply for Space Academy for Leading Students in Alabama, or SALSA, a Space Camp program funded by the Alabama legislature. A male and female student in each Alabama legislative district will receive a scholarship to attend SALSA.
