Bell Helicopter Counter-Sues Eurocopter

Dueling Lawsuits Hitting The Skids

Bell Helicopter has filed a counter suit against rival Eurocopter in patent infringement battle over the sleigh-type landing gear on its model 429 aircraft. Eurocopter says Bell is infringing on a 1999 patent for the skids.

The case took an odd twist at The Paris Air Show, when a French bailiff stopped a Bell demonstration on June 16th to take photographs of the 429. Bell says the move was "needlessly disruptive".

Now Bell is counter-suing, claiming that Eurocopter's suit has "no merit", and that the European manufacturer interfered with its ability to conduct business at the Paris Air Show, according to The Montreal Gazette. Spokespeople for both Bell Helicopter Canada and Eurocopter have declined to comment on a case that is pending before the courts.

Bell filed the complaint in Texas, the home of its parent company Textron. The helicopter is manufactured in Montreal.
