Pence Plane Involved In LaGuardia Runway Excursion

No Injuries As The Arrestor Bed Did Its Job

An airplane carrying Vice Presidential Candidate Mike Pence was involved in a Runway Excursion shortly before 2000 EDT Thursday night, causing LaGuardia Airport to close for a about two hours.

The New York Times reports that the plane carrying Pence and 47 others landed at LaGuardia in a heavy rain Thursday night, and skidded off the runway. It went through the Engineered Material Arresting System and finally stopped in a grassy area adjacent to the runway. No one on board the plane was injured.

Friday morning, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey reported on Twitter that passengers flying to and from LaGuardia should check with their carriers for possible delays and cancellations.

One of the runways at KLGA was reopened shortly after the incident occurred, however, Runway 4/22 remained closed while Pence's airplane was removed. PANYNJ Tweeted at 0439 EDT that the second runway had reopened, however, passengers should continue to check with their carriers if they are concerned about residual delays.

"So thankful everyone on our plane is safe," Pence Tweeted after the incident. "Grateful for our first responders & the concern & prayers of so many. Back on the trail tomorrow!"
