Fewer Opportunities Available For Warbird Flights

Two Organizations Announce Suspension Of Such Experiences

In the wake of last year's fatal accident involving a Collings Foundation B-17G in Connecticut, other organizations offering flight experiences in WWII aircraft are being forced to suspend those operations due to rising insurance costs.

The Lone Star Flight Museum in Texas posed on their website that "Due to rising operational expenses, sales of flights and passenger operations on our B-25 and B-17 are suspended for the remainder of 2020. We will evaluate flying status at the end of the year."

In a news release, The National Warplane Museum in Geneseo, NY said it was also suspending flights aboard the B-17 "The Movie Memphis Belle".

The museum said that it has been operating the airplane for the family of David Tallichet and the Military Aircraft Restoration Corporation for the last four years.

Now, "In light of the increasing hourly operating and insurance costs in connection with the aircraft, the Museum's Board of Trustees has decided to cease operating the airplane effective immediately and terminate the lease of the aircraft. We have notified the Tallichet family and are working through the process of returning the aircraft."
