Quiet Tragedy: Japan Hang-Glider Accident Kills One, Injures One

Hang-Glider, Paraglider In Mid-Air

One man died and another was injured in a midair collision between a hang glider and a paraglider in Akita Prefecture, Japan on Sunday afternoon.

Prefectural police said, at around 1:40 p.m. local time, a hang glider and paraglider collided midair over the town of Inakawa, and plunged to the ground.

Japan's Mainichi Daily News reports Shigenobu Mizuuchi, 47, who was piloting the hang glider died. The injured victim has not yet been identified. Police say his injuries were serious. He's being treated at a local hospital.
