Two Lost In Louisiana CAP Mishap

C182 Wreckage Found After Eleven-Hour Search

Two people were lost late Monday night when the Civil Air Patrol Cessna 182 they were flying in went down in Louisiana, along the Ouachita-Morehouse County Line.

The victims were identified as Arlan Rawls and Tommy Ray Nichols, both of West Monroe, LA. Rawls was a former president of the Ouachita Parish Police Jury (akin to a county commission in other states). They were also both members of the Civil Air Patrol.

"From what I heard, there was no mayday at all. They went below radar and all radio contact was lost," Lt. Suzann Ford, public information officer with the Louisiana Wing of the CAP, told reporters. She said the two men were on a training flight, apparently practicing approaches, when the 182 went down.

The wreckage was found in about a foot of water ten miles north of Monroe Regional Airport, where officials said the flight originated. The FAA and NTSB are investigating.
