Russian Pilot Suffers Heart Attack During Flight

Plane Made An Emergency Landing At Platov International Airport

The co-pilot of an Aeroflot A320 suffered a heart attack during a flight Sunday, causing the flight to be diverted to Platov International Airport in southern Russia.

Ladbible.com reports that the flight had been enroute to Moscow from the Black Sea resort of Anapa when the 49-year-old co-pilot of the flight suffered the heart attack. He was pronounced dead after landing despite the efforts of paramedics, according to the report.

The fatality was confirmed by an Aeroflot spokesman. He died in the ambulance. We express our sincere condolences to his family and friends," the spokesman said.

While at a cruising altitude of 33,000 feet, the captain asked for an immediate emergency landing at the nearest airport. A flight attendant reportedly went through the cabin to see if there was a doctor on board, according to a passenger on the flight.

While a heart attack was initially reported as the cause of death, an investigation into the incident has been launched by the Russian Investigative Committee's southern investigative department.
