Helo Down Off FL Gulf Coast, Two Lost

Was On Photo Shoot When Accident Occurred

Two men were killed, and a third injured, when their helicopter went down in the Gulf of Mexico Tuesday during a video shoot.

The Associated Press reports the helicopter, type unknown, was carrying a film crew doing a shoot for Powerboat Magazine off the coast of Sarasota, FL when it crashed.

"One witness said the helicopter came close the water and somehow flipped," said Sarasota County sheriff's Lt. Chuck Lesaltat. "Debris from the helicopter hit the boat."

Those onboard the boat were not injured in the accident. An unidentified female model on the boat, who is also a nurse, jumped into the water and assisted the men until rescue boats arrived.

"She dove right there into the fuel and was able to get a couple of guys out," Sarasota County Fire Department Assistant Chief Paul Dezzi said.

Two of the men were pronounced dead when they were brought to shore. The third was medevac'd to a St. Petersburg hospital, where his condition remains unreported.

Investigators with the FAA and NTSB are due on scene later today, according to news reports.
